PUBLIC PROGRAM Location, location, location – this rare opportunity to sketch and watercolor independently at Georgia O’Keeffe’s Home and Studio in Abiquiu, New Mexico, will be a unique experience for any artist or fan of O’Keeffe. Enjoy a half or a full day sketching or watercoloring on your own – on the grounds of O’Keeffe’s home. Create in the beauty of the landscape that inspired her for over 40 years. Cooking Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe

ADULT LEARNING PROGRAM Join the Santa Fe School of Cooking and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum to discover and explore some of Georgia O’Keeffe’s ideas about food and cooking. One of our chefs will guide you through some of the recipes featured in the book A Painter’s Kitchen: Recipes from the Kitchen of Georgia O’Keeffe, by Margaret Wood. O’Keeffe’s attitudes toward food were rare for her time; she preferred simple foods eaten in season, and grown and handled with care. Margaret Wood, O’Keeffe’s assistant for many years, will be on hand to share personal stories and insights into the artist’s life and her perspectives on food and, of course, art. This class will weave the recipes into their historical context to re-create the texture of O’Keeffe. The three-hour-long, demonstration-style class includes recipes and a full meal. INTERACTIVE PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT

JULY 15–19, 10 AM–NOON & 1–4 PM PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT SESSIONS The Critical Indigenous Photographic Exchange (CIPX) is a photographic inquiry and exchange of artist Will Wilson (Diné) and his subjects as he creates studio portraits that engage participants in dialogue and a portrait session using the wet-plate collodion process. Wilson re-creates and re-enacts this performative ritual, which is intensified and refined by his use of a large-format (8 by 10 in.) camera to create a tintype for the sitter. This beautifully alchemic photographic process dramatically contributed to the collective understanding of Native American people and, in so doing, the American identity, demonstrating how an understanding of our world can be acquired through fabricated methods. Museum visitors can register to be photographed. Each portrait takes approximately 30 minutes. An exhibition of digitally printed portraits from the CIPX series will be on view at the Education Annex July 8—19. We will explore the varied roles of color usage in painting, mainly through mixing colors, making color chips, and painting two very small landscapes that include buildings. Discover the richness of color through analogous color schemes, color depth through the use of warm and cool colors, distance as related to color saturation, how lighting affects the subject and the finished work, and the relevance of color choices and schemes to emotion and expression. Art & Leadership for Adults
During her first summer in New Mexico, Georgia O’Keeffe became fascinated by her new environment, and created works reflecting her passion for the architecture, cultural objects and landscapes of her new home. In this exploratory workshop, we will reflect upon, and bring to the surface that which truly fascinates and inspires us, and discover how to create environments that reflect this inner passion. Using mixed-media collage to create a palette of our inspiration, and then discussing tips on how to incorporate these findings in subtle and easy ways in our daily routine, we leave equipped with tools to create more inspired and passionate lives.
Led by Ryann Davis, a Los Angeles-based, television lifestyle personality, florist and interior designer.

Cooking Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe

ADULT LEARNING PROGRAM Join the Santa Fe School of Cooking and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum to discover and explore some of Georgia O’Keeffe’s ideas about food and cooking. One of our chefs will guide you through some of the recipes featured in the book A Painter’s Kitchen: Recipes from the Kitchen of Georgia O’Keeffe, by Margaret Wood. O’Keeffe’s attitudes toward food were rare for her time; she preferred simple foods eaten in season, and grown and handled with care. Margaret Wood, O’Keeffe’s assistant for many years, will be on hand to share personal stories and insights into the artist’s life and her perspectives on food and, of course, art. This class will weave the recipes into their historical context to re-create the texture of O’Keeffe. The three-hour-long, demonstration-style class includes recipes and a full meal.
